Ken and Anne Ruthven have their carriage driving base at Boreland near Lockerbie. For several years, Ken has been training and showing horses predominately in the four in hand Coaching Classes. He regularly achieves top three placings at these shows and has won best turned out Coach at Royal Windsor Horse Show. During 2009 successes in Private Driving with both singles and pairs resulted in three championship wins.

2010 saw a win at Royal Berkshire Horse Show in the Road Coach class coaching marathon. Success has carried into 2011 when Ken won the Road Coach class coaching marathon at Royal Windsor Horse Show. He was presented with the Lamerton Challenge Cup. This was followed with a first in the multiples class at New Forest Horse Show and a first in the light trade class with a pair at the BDS Scottish Show.

Training of horses and lessons for carriage drivers is also high on the priority list as Ken is keen to assist others interested in carriage driving. To this end he regularly holds clinics at driving groups and gives one to one lessons to suit individual requirements.

Ken is qualified with The British Driving Society to Advanced level. He is also a BDS light harness horse instructor (L.H.H.I.) and a BDS carriage driving assessor. He is the only carriage driver in Scotland to hold a University College certificate in commercial harness driving. He is also a qualified UKcc (driving) level 2 coach.
